Vince Williams, 31, announced his retirement on Wednesday after Steelers reported for training camp. Williams was drafted in the 6th round of the 2013 NFL draft and played all eight years in Pittsburgh.
Williams, who was released from the team in March amid cap issues, re-signed with the Steelers in April for a veteran deal.
During his eight years as a Steeler linebacker, Williams amassed 20.5 sacks, 479 total tackles and 50 tackles for loss. He started in 69 of his 121 career games.
WillIan’s role in the 2021 defense would have been a backup in rotation to Spillane, who stepped up big in replacement of Devin Bush who tore his ACL. The Steelers will miss Williams leadership on and off the field.
